Personlig profil

Forskningsprofil

Our innate immune system is the first to interact with pathogens (e.g. bacteria and virus) and is central in protecting us from infections and determining the final outcome. This is especially true for the very young where the immune system (innate and adaptive) is immature, rendering them increasingly susceptible to infectious diseases. At the same time, unfavorable immune reactions can lead to autoimmune diseases with a significant negative impact. My research focus is to understand the development of the human immune system in early life, with a particular focus on the innate immune system, and as an extension of this understand how immune reactions lead to autoimmune diseases. The main methods I apply are OMICS (Big Data) with bioinformatics including machine learning strategies. The perspective is to facilitate better treatment strategies and diagnostic tools.
