Forskningsprofil

Simon Laumann Jørgensen holds a BA, MA and PhD in Philosophy (Aarhus University, Denmark) and is Associate Professor of Political Theory at the Department of Politics and Society, Aalborg University, Denmark.

During his BA studies, he spent a year studying comparative literature at the University of Copenhagen. During his MA, he spent a year as an Erasmus student at the Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen.

As part of his doctoral studies, he was a one-year Visiting Fellow with Professor Nancy Fraser at the New School for Social Research (and took courses with Professor Fred Neuhouser at Columbia University). Later, he held a three-month DAAD fellowship at the Goethe University in Frankfurt , Germany, with Professor Axel Honneth.

He now has 20 years of experience in problem-oriented research in social philosophy and political theory, with a special focus on recognition, democracy, and critical theory.

He was PI of the project The Borders of Democracy on the justifications of exclusions from democracy, which was funded by the Independent Research Fund Denmark with approx. 450,000 USD (2018-2023).

Ph.d.-vejledning

MA William Sjöstedt defended his dissertation “Should Democracy Become Intergenerational? On the Inclusion of Youth and Future Generations in the Anthropocene” on October 9, 2023. Members of the committee were Professor Ludvig Beckman (Stockholm University), Professor Christian Rostbøll (University of Copenhagen), and Professor Antje Gimmler (Aalborg University).
